Question
If a teen who is active in our youth group, 16 years old, becomes pregnant, she she stay in youth or be moved to the adult group? Although she isn't one what age do you feel youth should be promoted to the adult classes or should there be a young adult class?? Please HELP!?

Answer
Deanna-

A lot of people would choose throwing her out as an example of poor decisions.  I'm not in that group.  I think she needs the love of Jesus now more than ever, and the best way to show that is to welcome her into the group.

As a counselor, I would do a lot of talking with her to see if she knows she made a mistake.  If she flaunts her pregnancy or says it's no big deal, then I would consider asking her to not promote that agenda.  If she refuses, then I might ask her to step away, but it would be an extremely tough decision to do so.

I think she ought to stay, and ought to talk to the group about how she (they) made a bad decision - the guy ought to stand up and take his lumps, too.  Sometimes coming from a peer, it carries more weight.

A young adult class is not the answer - she has nothing in common with them, especially if she's still going to high school.

See Juno, an excellent movie about this subject.

hope this helps,
