Question
i receantly finish reading the old testament and i love it, but when i started reading the new testament and read about that blasphemy against the holy spirit was unforgivible i started having unwanted thoughts, as if someone else in my head wants to blasphem against the holy spirit, and sometimes it does but i really dont want to. it would have been better to not read this particular part of the bible because beforei read about it i didnt even think of baspleming. so i guess what im asking is if i can be forgiven if i do commit a blasphemy.

Answer
Dear Richard,
I have taken the liberty to cut and paste some responses I've given on the issue of blasphemy in the past.   I think it is widely misunderstood, and what you have mentioned in your question does not sound to me like the sin of blasphemy.    Honestly, I think it's pretty much just that your mind is being 'open to suggestion' because you care, and are afraid you will do this sin,. . and your mind is playing tricks on you. Don't forget, God knows your heart.  Rest assured.

Love and prayers,
Susan M.

QUESTION: Why exactly is blasphemy unforgivable?

ANSWER:

I think it is basically in that  blasphemy is addressing or viewing the Holy Spirit as though he were the devil, to you.  Since He is the One who convicts of sin and brings repentance to faith and righteousness in Christ, if someone is totally opposed to and hostile towards the Spirit, that person would obviously never be ABLE to come to repentance.

Does this sound  clear ?   I know, this is a hard question, and you definitely are not the first to ask it. I myself have asked it before.    Let me know if you want me to explain it further.

QUESTION: Well what exactly is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit?
Answer:

Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit comes from the gospel passage where the pharisees were accusing Jesus of doing miracles by the power of the devil.  He was as a matter of fact, doing the miracles by the power of the Holy Spirit - of course.  So the pharisees were in effect calling the Holy Spirit and His work, 'of the devil'.
To bring it down to some practical application, one person defined blasphemy against the Holy Spirit as 'maliciously rejecting or refusing the gospel message'.   The one who works the gospel in a heart is the Holy Spirit, so that makes sense.

Does this help ?   More questions on this ??

Sincerely,
SM

In my mother's words:
"One who is guilty of this sin would never want to be indebted to Christ to forgive his/her sins; there is heart-malice in the attitude, and the individual is an avowed adversary, not hesitating to oppose all the good that the Spirit of God would bring to him/her.  The individual hates the way God has devised to save us."
