Question I read on the net the following and need to know if it is true. Especially the last portion.
As you will see in the way these verses are worded, they will specifically tell us that no one can come to Jesus to receive His gift of eternal salvation unless God the Father first starts to draw that person to Him. And then it says that no one can say that Jesus is Lord unless it is done "by" the Holy Spirit.
That no one can say Jesus is Lord? Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated. regards, Mr. Stroud
Answer Hi Tyler,
Thanks for this great question. I am not familiar with the website you seem to reference, but I am familiar with the scripture.
John 6:44
44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.
The King James Version, (Cambridge: Cambridge) 1769.
Every one of us start out as completely dead. The Holy Ghost neeeds to draw us to the truth. On our own, spiritual things will not make sense.
1 Corinthians 2:14
14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
The King James Version, (Cambridge: Cambridge) 1769.
That does not mean that there are some that God does not go after. The Bible says that the light of Christ has enlightened everyone.
John 1:9
9 That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.
The King James Version, (Cambridge: Cambridge) 1769.
Now as to calling Jesus Lord... we all know of unsaved folks who say the phrase Lord Jesus... but only those who have the Holy Spirit can say it and really mean that He is actually their LORD and that they will really endeavor to obey Him.
I hope that this helps you.
In Christ
Pastor Don
