Question
I see that you have taught in schools.  What is your believe as educators our Christian role should be in reaching students with emotional or behavioral challenges?  I have read the some passages on the bible and liked Luke 6:40.  What is your opinion?
Thanks,
Saul

Answer
Hi Saul,

I just looked at the verse you mentioned, Luke 6:40. Good verse!
I think partly what that passage is saying is, that you have to be a good example to your students.  You can't lead your students if you yourself are spiritually blind.   This is the first most important matter to address.  To ask oneself, 'Am I following Christ with my eyes wide open?'
I love the verse too, in Psalm 119:99 - "I have more understanding than all my teachers, for your testimonies are my meditation."   If our students 'mull over' the Word of God in their hearts and in their minds, they have potential even to surpass us in understanding!
When it comes to students with behavioral or emotional challenges, I think the most powerful tutor is LOVE; the love of Jesus Christ. Also, a genuine life.  Sincerity in loving them, and integrity and genuineness in living out the Christian life in front of them.
Are you a teacher as well?

Sincerely,
SM

I have been in 'youth groups' and helped out with them, and have worked with youth in other areas as well (in a school setting). Many kids and youth have felt comfortable opening up to me. I am very real and open.
