Christianity --Youth Issues/Point of Contact

Question
My name is Zen, I'm 15 and I have been a Christian since I was 10 and I have seen a lot of incredible things happen in my life that I know God has had something to do with. I know that God works miracles but I'm not sure about something that my Grandmother takes very seriously.

A preacher on television was offering free "Miracle Olive Oil Soap" and so she ordered it and now she is excited for it to come so she can heal the arthritis in her hands. I respect my Grandmother as a Godly woman and I asked her if she was putting her faith in the soap and not God. She told me that the soap was a point of contact with God and at the time I didn't ask any questions.

I'm not exactly sure what a "point of contact" means and why we need to get things like Miracle Olive Oil Soap to have a point of contact with God. Can you please tell me what a point of contact is and why we can't just pray for healing without one and why it is important from a biblical standpoint?

Answer
I'm not sure what she means by "point of contact" either.  I guess it's just something physical, rather than spiritual, that she can see and hold.  I agree with you that perhaps she's putting more faith in the soap than in God, but we shouldn't judge the motives and actions of others.

There is no reason why you can't directly pray for healing.  In fact, you should.

hope this helps,

carl
