Question
i am a born again believer that experienced quite a traumatic coming to christ and yielding to the holy spirit. until one day i was at work and a thought popped in my mind.. " i know satin can deceive people very easily i hope he hasnt deceived me into thinking im saved" immediately i felt no remorse and i felt as if the holy spirit has left me and i think i committed the unpardonable sin. i just feel like im going to hell no matter what. i realized after i thought this i was comparing the holy spirit in my life with that of satan i cant feel him no more like i used to. help??!!

Answer
Hi Brad-

If you're worried about committing the unpardonable sin, you can't commit it.  Why?  Because if you committed it, you wouldn't even care about it, much less worry about going to hell.  You'd just say the heck with you holy spirit and move on to the next thing.

As for actually feeling the Holy Spirit in your life, it comes and goes.  There are seasons to every adventure in life, now you feel it, now you don't.  I've felt the touch of the Holy Spirit only a couple times in my entire life (I'm 64), and I just don't worry about it.  It was cool, it was spiritual, it was meaningful, and I needed it when I got it.  I don't need it now.  When God thinks I need it, I'm sure I'll feel it again.  E.g. sometimes, not all the time, when I preach, I get an out of body experience.  I preached tonight.  I didn't get an out of body experience, but I still felt like I was speaking God's word.  As you go through life, you will have times on the mountaintop, and times in the valley.  Dealing with your troubles in the valley are what prepares you for the Holy Spirit on the mountaintop.  Seems backwards, doesn't it?  But I often experience it that way.

Just hang in there, keep on seeking, and God will find you and you will find Him.  See Jeremiah 29:11-14.
