Question
what teachings tell us not to have abortions?

Answer
Since abortion is not mentioned in the Bible, the prohibition against killing in the 10 commandments is used to prohibit abortions.  

The big controversy is whether or not life actually exists at conception, or when does it become "life".

M personal feeling is that life begins at conception, and although I am not in favor of abortions, I do believe that the choice for an abortion should be made by the pregnant woman.  Abortions will happen whether they are legal or not.  I would prefer that they be legal so fewer lives are lost.
