About Roland Finston
Expertise
I take questions about domestic Chrysler-product front wheel drive cars and minivans for the years 1982-2000 based upon my experience and shop manuals. I don't have detailed information (e.g. manuals) nor expertise for Jeeps, trucks, SUV's, import vehicles, or for years more recent than 2000 (except Sebring/Stratus I have '03). I am available to take a question between 8AM CT and 9PM CT, and attempt to provide an answer within 1 hour. If I am shown as "maxed out" try again later in the day as I add question opportunities one at a time so as to respond quickly, but I do have other responsibilities as well so may not be available for several hours at times. Try at 7PM CST as I will always be available for one question then. There are answers to hundreds of Chrysler questions at your finger tips: click on "view past answers", one of which may be to your question as well; or put a few key words in the "search for" box, above.

Experience
I have been a do-it-yourself auto hobbyist for 5 decades, and most recently have been concentrating on the various Chrysler Corporation domestic front wheel drive cars and vans. I have shop manuals and wiring diagrams for many models for the years '83-'00, as well as rear wheel drive cars for the early 80's. I enjoy analyzing problems that other Chrysler enthusiasts are having and sharing my information.

Subject: 01 T&C AC problem

Question
I have a 2001 town and country, the ac control has settings for driver, passenger and rear. Was an auto mechanic years ago. Problem: Air blowing out of passenger side is cold but drivers side is on the warm side. I have evacuated and recharged the system and have done a vent reset. Is there a sensor that controls the air temp. or did the dashboard switch go bad? My 2 guesses. Any experts. Thanks

Answer
Hi Frank,
There is a separate blend door for each side, so perhaps the driver side is binding up. You can gain access to it on the left side of the unit, before doing that have you tried to do a calibraion and fault code readout?
I am handicapped in only having a manual for the '98 model, but that one has a self-diagnostic capability to test the calibration of all the actuators and assess the cooldown capability of the system. The test may well be available also in your 2001, but I can't guarantee it.
Starting the tests is fairly straight forward, but following up on any faults requires further action/interprestation of the way the lights are flashing at the conclusion of the first test. All the possibilities cover about 6+ pages in the manual.
But let us give it a try. The engine must be running. Set the blower on HIGH, set mode to the PANEL position, open all AC outlets, Set temperature slide pot(s) to COLD, Depress WASH and REAR WIPER simultaneously for 5 seconds (Until all LED's light). The LED's will stay on for 5 seconds. Calibration tests are running when the rear wiper and intermittent are alternatively flashing. Cooldown test is running when the A/C and recirc lights are flashing.
Acceptable result is when the rear wiper only LED is flashing.
Push rear wiper button to exit.
Interpretation of codes (presumably stored if you don't get the above result) is an involved process for which it would be better to xerox copy and postal mail you the pages.
So see whether your unit seems to behave according to what I have described, and please let me know.
Roland
