About Roland Finston
Expertise
I take questions about domestic Chrysler-product front wheel drive cars and minivans for the years 1982-2000 based upon my experience and shop manuals. I don't have detailed information (e.g. manuals) nor expertise for Jeeps, trucks, SUV's, import vehicles, or for years more recent than 2000 (except Sebring/Stratus I have '03). I am available to take a question between 8AM CT and 9PM CT, and attempt to provide an answer within 1 hour. If I am shown as "maxed out" try again later in the day as I add question opportunities one at a time so as to respond quickly, but I do have other responsibilities as well so may not be available for several hours at times. Try at 7PM CT as I will always be available for one question then. There are answers to hundreds of Chrysler questions at your finger tips: click on "view past answers", one of which may be to your question as well; or put a few key words in the "search for" box, above.

Experience
I have been a do-it-yourself auto hobbyist for 5 decades, and most recently have been concentrating on the various Chrysler Corporation domestic front wheel drive cars and vans. I have shop manuals and wiring diagrams for many models for the years '83-'00, as well as rear wheel drive cars for the early 80's. I enjoy analyzing problems that other Chrysler enthusiasts are having and sharing my information.

Question
QUESTION: I own a '99 Chrysler Sebring Lxi. My left blinker is stuck in the one position.

What do I do? Head to Chrysler or do I change a fuse, or can i get in there
and get it unstuck myself?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I don't own the owner's manual.

Thanks!

ANSWER: Hi Grant,
Do you mean that the turn signal lever is stuck in the left turn position and won't allow you to return it (and the both light bulbs are flashing?, or are not flashing?) or do you mean that the lever is back in the neutral position and the left turn lights continue to blink? or something other than the above?
Thanks for clarifying.

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: Lever can be moved to any position, the left blinker just keeps going and
going.

I can turn on my lights, switch from brights to regular. And when I put on my
hazards both blinkers work and I have checked all the bulbs.

I am just not sure whether I should head to the dealer or if I can go to a napa
or schucks and pick up what I need to fix it and do it myself.

Or if the switch is just dirty and needs a good cleaning?

Answer
Hi Grant,
I think the issue has to do with a mechanical problem in the multifunction switch/clock spring interface of the steering column. When you complete the turn there is a cancelling cam that in on the clockspring, which is a replaceable part on the steering column (allow for the horn wires etc. to be mounted in the steering, e.g. a flexible coupling whose wires are like a clockspring), and that is supposed to interact with cancelling finger (actuator) of the multifunction switch proper. Probably the finger is sticking in place, or the cam is misaligned/cracked and not making proper contact with the finger. You can inspect this yourself by removing the upper steering column cover, and then the multifunction switch,  but that is a multi-step procedure that is best transmitted if I were to copy the several pages and postal mail them to you. Use the "thank and rate" tab to tell me you mailing address.
