Chrysler Repair - transmission shifts to neutral when accelerated

Expert: Roland Finston - 11/6/2009

Question
when accelerating from stop, trans will jump out of gear to neutral and then go back in gear when i let up on the gas --only happens when starting from stop

Answer
Hi Charles,
I suspect that one of the three engine mounts is worn so badly that the engine moves when you put torque into it sufficiently to move the gear shift lever on the transmission proper. So rev the engine in neutral and see if the engine seems the be very flexible in its position. If so, figure out which of the three mounts is fatigued and replace it. If that doesn't seem to be the case, then consider adjusting the cable on the transmission at the transmission shift lever.
Roland
