Chrysler Repair/1990 New Yorker Fifth Avenue ~ driver's side power window

Question
QUESTION: Your help please!  The driver's side power window on my wife's 1990 New Yorker Fifth Avenue stopped working.  This morning she went to lower the window and it powered down about 4" then stopped.  We can not raise and lower it with the window's power windows motor but can manually raise it by pulling it up.  It then tends to fall back down once we let it go. We can hear the windows motor trying to move it up or down as there is a ratcheting or clicking noise as if gears were stripped.

Can you provide any help or information on how to remove the door panel?  Where are the door panel retainers (screws and fasteners) located and how do I get to them?  I will order the required parts for the repair as soon as we can get the door panel off and see what part(s) we need.

Thanks for your help!  Respectively.

ANSWER: Hi Ted,
I have the '89 and '91 manuals which have the same figure of the panel, but slightly different steps in the text. I will give you both, '89 (then '91):
Remove speaker grille (4 clips)
Disconnect power seat switch wiring if equipped
Remove courtesy lamp lens
Remove screw holding arm rest to inner panel (and single trim panel attaching screw forward of speaker) and 2 screws in carpet holding trim panel to inner door panel (and 2 screws in lower panel behind carpet).
Disengage trim clips holding switch bezel to trim panel and disconnect switch wires (5 clips)
Disengage frog-leg fasteners from around trim panel and lift trim panel from door. Appears to be 1 on the front, 3 along the lower edge, 2 on the rear edge.
Disconnect courtesy lamp wiring.
Install is the reverse.

When you get inside I suspect you will find a flex-drive type of system (a curved drive mechanism). I can xerox copy and postal mail you the 3 pages that show how to remove/repair/replace as necessary. Send me you postal mailing address if you would like that.

Thanks so much for your reply!  It will help a bunch!  If you can Xerox copy and postal mail me the 3 pages that show how to remove/repair/replace as necessary that would help even more.

My Mail Address Is:   Ted Marquardt

Just for reference the Chrysler New Yorker Fifth Ave. is my wife's car that we purchased used back in 1991.  It has all the options offered back then – power everything and the "Corinthian" leather seats.  It' a great car and only has 79,244 miles on it.  I also know its resale value isn't much.  We were going to but it up for sale when the window problem happened.  At a $300 to $500 repair we just can't justify it.

Again thanks.  Your help is very much appreciated.

Ted & Jan Marquardt

Answer
I will do that. If you don't want to keep it longer, do try to find someone who will appreciate it as much as you have.

PS: I got the copy pages into the mail this afternoon here on the West Coast and am hoping that you will get them by Saturday.
