Chrysler Repair/Voyager diesel: manual trans/gear box oil fill

Question
Where do I check that there is enough oil in the gearbox.
It is a 2,5 diesel, 2003 manual.
Where is the filler plug, and what oil should I use?
David

Answer
Hi David
The filler plug is best accessed and seen by jacking up the vehicle (or lifting on a hoist) and supporting it on stands. You will find a fill plug on the lower angled side of the unit, below the mid-line, and next to the flat end cap. It has a flat tab-like protrusion to twist out the plug with a counter-clockwise direction for removal. The fluid used is Automatic Transmission fluid type ATF+4 and you would use a funnel with a thin hose (or a hand-held oil can with a top spout) to fill it to within 1/8 inch of the hole opening. There is a drain plug on the bottom that removes via a hex wrench if you want to drain out the old fluid. The fill capacity is 2.5-2.9 qts. The drain plug is torqued to 17 foot-pounds. There is no torque spec for the filler plug, just enough to insure it is "properly seated".
