Question
QUESTION: Hi,
I have a 1991 Chrysler Imperial with a 3.3L and it has a rough idle and a feels like a miss when driving. I've seen you mention a poorly seated EGR valve to be sometimes the culprit.Do you think to be the case with me. And if so where is it located on the engine I can't seem to find it.Or could it be something else.

Thank you

ANSWER: Hi anthony ,
my internet connection is down, back tomorrow.

QUESTION: Hi Roland,
Was wondering if you had any thoughts on my issue I'm having. I was told the EGR valve is under the throttle body on my car but I searched under the throttle body and I don't see it.Any info would be helpful.
Thanks

ANSWER: Hi Anthony,
Yes, the engine would have an egr but only if it was sold initially in California. It would be mounted at far end of a a small pipe that branches off the rear exhaust manifold at its center outlet, and routes over to the throttle body area. So unless you have such a vehicle there is no egr. Let me know if so and I can give you the details about its function/mal-function. Interestingly too is that the 3.8L engine nationwide did have the egr in '91.
Roland
PS By the time I sorted out the internet connection your question had slipped my mind.

QUESTION: Hi Roland,
No mine was sold in Michigan so there is no EGR valve. So then what could be the problem?

Thank you

Answer
Hi Andrew:
I don't recal whether you did the fault code readout using the ignition key:"on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then count the number of flashes before each pause shown by the check engine light. Repeat the process to assure an accurate set of flash counts. Then let me know the counts in order of appearance. May one of the codes will explain a reason for the rough idle.
Roland
PS Just to be certain on the egr you could look at the sticker on the underside of the hood to see if the vacuum diagram shows an egr. It shouldn't if the manual I have is accurate.
