Chrysler Repair/Town and Country Turn Signal

Question
Roland,

My 2001 Chrysler Town and Country turn signal fails to turn off automatically after making a turn. I replaced the turn signal switch figuring it was the problem. Wrong. The new switch made no difference with the blinker turning off. I am able to manually turn the turn signal off, but it's a pain. What else should I try?

Thank you for your time!
:)
Lynn

Answer
Hi Lynn,
The canceling function of the turn signal switch is actuated by one of two lobes located on the clockspring device, according to my '02 manual. So it is either an issue of the lobes being damaged, or the mechanical positioning of the clockspring in relationship to the multifunction switch. You need to center the steering wheel, disconnect the battery - clamp, then remove the air bag from the steering wheel, disconnect its wires, remove connectors from the radio control and the speed control/horm control, then remove the steering wheel, remove the steering column shrouds, disconnect the connectors of the clockspring, and then remove two screws that hold the clockspring in place. You can then examine it for the condition of the cams. It might be that the spring is not positioned properly for the cam lobes to contact the multifunction switch cancellation function.
