Chrysler Repair/'99 sebring convertible: alternator removal

Question
Hi Roland,
We've got a 99 sebring convertible with a bad alternator.  I've read a couple of your other posts about removal of this, but cannot figure out how to get past the removal of the alternator after taking out the pivot bolt.  there seems to be a spacer or flange that goes inside from the engine side, that the bolt rode through, and it is stopping the alternator from coming up and out.  How do i deal with this spacer and removal of it?  Thank you!

Answer
Hi Derek,
Here are the steps from the '00 manual:
The steps for replacing the alternator (on the 2.5L V-6 engine which I assume that it is) are as follows:
Disconnect battery cable from the shock tower near by
Unplug field circuit from alternator
Remove B+ terminal nut and wire
Lossen top mounting ear bolt
Lossen pivot bolt but do no remove. Be careful not to lose nut
Loosen adjusting bolt on idler to allow removal of the drive belt
Remove pivot bolt, do not drop spacer
Remove top mounting ear bolt
Remove upper alternator bracket
Remove alternator
When installing tighten the pivot and mounting bolts to 40 foot-pounds torque.
Let me know how things work out, please.
Roland
PS Another owner also had some suggestion which I am trying to locate, and if I find it I will send that along.
