Chrysler Repair/Transmission Codes - 94 Plymouth Voyager

Question
Hi,

I ran a test on my mom's van to see what was going on. The Van seems to not want to switch gears after it has been running for a few miles. The codes I got were 51, 52, 53, 56, 57, 36, AND 24. Do you know what these codes mean? I tried to google and do a search for what they meant, but haven't had any luck.

Can you possibly help?

Thanks,

Jese

Answer
Hi Jesse,
All except the 24 code unfortunately point toward an internal mechanical situation that would require a rebuild. If you drop the pan and find no debris sitting there I would be surprised, and were that the case you might try first a new output speed sensor (for all the 50-series speed ratio error codes) and second replacing the solenoid pack on the side of the transmission (for code 24) to see if that solves the problem. But the 36 code suggests the issue is indeed mechanical, not electrical, as it says the errors are seen shortly after each shift.  So drop and check the pan for debris which is a sign of internal failure of the clutches due to wear and tear. How many miles are 'on' this transmission? It may have simply reached its normal wear-out point.
