Question
I have a problem with a 92 new yorker fifth av. Cluster i read your answer i did what you told bobbi and a code showed up code are 900,905,920,940 and 999 can you help me please thank you. Mario

Answer
Hi Mario,
That set of code numbers means that the digital data that is needed to operate the cluster is not being seen by the cluster. It could be a problem with a solder joint between one of the two wire connectors at the socket pin and the circuit board that it attaches to in the cluster, or a bad connection between the incoming wire and the splice where it connects to the shared 'bus' that carries the data around the vehicle. The wires in question are found on pins 9 and 10 of the cluster plug and are white/black and violet/brown. I would suggest that you remove the cluster and check the connection of those two wires at another place where they are supposed to be connected which is the blue diagnostic connector located under the dash where one can plug in a code reader. It is on the driver side and is attached to a multi-wire harness. Then I would suggest that you check that the socket pins for those two wires are attached properly to the curcuit board of the cluster. It may be that the solder joint has come open and so just touching the joint with a soldering pencil will restore the connection.
