Chrysler Repair/FAULT CODE 37, '92 Lebaron ETAX
I have another question for you concerning a fault code I have on my 92 Lebaron GTC convertable 3.0L. 4spd auto, which is the SAME CAR that I wrote to you about in my last question. I just forgot to tell you what Chrysler it is!
I had disconnected my battery last night to clear the old codes so I know this one is "fresh".
After the keydance for the codes I got this:
Code 37-Transaxle PARK/NEUTRAL switch failure.
I just a complete transmission rebuild not even 3 weeks ago.
The transmission pointer indicator was never working properly when I got the car. I replaced the cracked transmission shifter "tongue"...that plastic strip that covers the workings below the shifter thats usually always cracked/broken in Lebarons.
When I went through the assembly of the trans tunnel, I noticed the gear pointer was attatched to a thin wire on sprung coil that would presumibly move the pointer when the shifter was moved to the proper gear indicated. I reattached the mechanism as it was off, and thought nothing more of it. It didn't work with my fix, and I wasnt too worried about it at the time. I havent noticed any problems with the transmission.
Is there any cause for alarm with this fault code?
PS good luck with your volunteer of the year award. With my Lebaron, and Lebarons being what they are electrically...you should have no trouble getting LOTS of questions. At least from me! Best of luck.
I don't think this has anything to do with the shift indicator, if it is a valid code.
I don't show the code 37 as obtained via the ignition switch to be the same as you quoted, rather I see it to mean 'an open or shorted condition detected in the torque converter part throttle unlock solenoid circuit'. In the 4 speed etax this suggests a problem with the solenoid switch valve is stuck in the lock up position. This could be confirmed by using a code reader connected to the blue data link connector located under the left hand end of the dash. If that way you also got a trans fault code #37 then that would confirm my understanding of what is wrong and that it is locked up on the lock up position
The effect of that code would be that you would have no 1st gear and instead would start up in 2nd gear. You would not go into limp mode so the trans should continue to upshift into higher gears. However you would not experience torque converter lock up either.
So see whether this seems to be the case, and if it seems so you could corroborate that with a readout using the box on the blue plug. I believe the solenoid switch valve implicated by those codes is part of the solenoid/[ressure switch pack. Have you replaced that pack?
