Question my lebaron hazards will not come off. I never turned them on. They say from the inside they are off. from the outside they are on. I found this out while trying to jump the car. I heard a ticking like a turn signal, It wasn't until I had pushed the car to a safe place with a friend that I notice the hazards were on. The car will get juice when jumped. Wont say started. Please help. Car is wonderful otherwise.
Answer Hi Heather,
If the engine does start with the help of a jump, but then dies quickly then we need to solve that. The engine does have a controller module with self-diagnostic capability that we can take advantage of: use the ignition key to turn the ignition switch: "on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then watch the 'check engine' light, which remains "on", to see it begin to flash, pause, flash, etc. Count the number of flashes before each pause. Then repeat the process to be sure of an accurate set of flash counts. Tell me those counts in the order that they appeared and we'll go from there to solve that issue.
As for the hazard flasher, it operates along with the turn signals, by the multifunction switch. But also there may be another switch for those lights called "funeral mode" which is similar but not identical. Look in the owners manual to see if that is the case and if so try turning that switch on and off. That switch might be defective so try turning it and/or the hazard switch on and off repeatedly to see if you notice whether those switches seems to be working mechanically or not. There is another component called the diode package located in the relay block on the left side kick panel (to the left of the driver's left leg) which may be defective. Sorting out why the hazards won't shut off may require the use of a volt-ohm meter to find the exact cause. Do you have access to such a meter and ideally know how to use it or know someone who does?
PS: If you can get the flash counts tonight or early tomorrow let me know. If not, then I will be available Saturday evening to respond to what you find.
