Question I have a 1999 Chrys. Concorde LXi that I bought in January 2004. When summer came, I tried the AC and it would not blow cold air. Every time I would take it back to the dealer I bought it from (not a Chrysler dealer) they would tell me the AC was blowing about 35 degrees on its lowest temp. and they could not find a problem. Finally after taking it back for the 4th time, they contacted the local Chrysler dealer who told them that it was a defect in a certain part that has occurred in some of the same models. They replaced it last July and it worked fine the rest of that summer. Now it's a new summer and it's doing it again. It will blow cold at night and in the morning, but during the day, I will set it at about 65 degrees and it blows at about 75-80 degrees. Also, this winter my heater would blow hot air until I came to a stop at a light or stop sign and it would immediately start blowing cooler air, even when I had it on high. Of course, when I take it to a mechanic, the temp. is fine. I have been dealing with these problems pretty much since I have bought this car. Otherwise, it has operated with little problems.
I asked this question yesterday of another expert who suggested I take it back to the dealer and the possibly faulty part should be replaced for free, but I would like to actually have a suggestion as to what the problem might be so that I can go back to the mechanic with some basic knowledge. Any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated - thanks.
Answer Hi Liz,
Thanks for the kind recommendation.
To save time, here is the procedure for the auto temp control type of unit. Let me know if you have the non-auto unit:
Have the engine idling and set the temperature on the panel to 75 degrees, then push in and hold the Floor, Mix, and Defrost buttons all at the same time until the display section blinks, then release the buttons.
The control display will continue to blink, and then show two-digit trouble code numbers if any are present, they range from # 23 to # 36.
Only one code can be displayed at a time, but pressing and releasing the Panel button will display the next code if present. If no more codes are present the display will return to normal.
Write back with the code #'s if any and I can decode them.
Or if you have the non-auto unit let me know that and I'll go thru the readout procedure for that one.
I hope this helps to get to the answer for your problem.
