Churches Of Christ - Elders and Deacons

Question
Must there be a plurality of deacons just as there is a plurality of elders or is it okay to just one one deacon?  Also, can you have elders and no deacons?  Thank you.....

Answer
Thankyou for your question my Sister in Christ

Doing some study and research in the scriptures about elders and deacons in the New Testament, the plural form of both elder(s) and deacon(s) are used mostly throughout.  It seems that the divine plans for local churches were to ordain more than one (elders and deacons) for the ministry and work that needs to be done.  As for elders specifically look at Titus 1:5 where Paul tells Titus to ordain elders in every city---he wanted men of God to be ordained to that office, not just one man.  1 Tim 3:8-12 tells of the office of the deacon but used the plural form as well.  There are many scriptures in the New Testament about both, but they always say "elders" and "deacons".  I will give you the example of the Mile High Church of Christ, my home congregation.  Our evangelist is setting things in order concerning the church, and the eventually naming of elders and deacons is part of that.  It has been almost 2 years since we have been a congregation and he has spent that time getting to know the brothers who serve in the church.  When the time was right, he named the willing brothers and their wives that would be in Eldership and Deacon training.  Point being that it is a plurality of both because our evangelist wanted to use the bibical model.  Now the bible does not tell us exactly how many elders and deacons should be in every local congregation, but it does show us that there is a plurality of men in both of those offices in the church.  Thankyou for you question and God Bless you my sister.
