AboutOnaga Thomas Expertise I am a member of the Park East Church of Christ in Denver, CO. I can answer any questions any people out there have regarding the Churches of Christ. Whether it be about our history, services, spirituallity or why we believe in only one church. Write me with any concerns you have about the Church of Christ and I will do my best to answer them
Experience I was born and raised in the Church of Christ and was baptized at age 10. With the help of my mother and father, brothers and sisters of the church, christian friends etc...I have a profound knowledge of the truth about the Word of God. I am strong in my beliefs and convictions and will answer anyones questions with scriptual knowledge and fact. I want to boldly proclaim the true Word of God according to Bible principal instead of what I think or what someone has told me.
Question Can you tell me why the Catholic church (and many other churches) do not recognize the Sabbath as God's holy day to rest and worship him and instead have changed the Sabbath (Saturday) to Sunday? If you read the Bible, God says OVER AND OVER again to keep his commandments and NOT change them in any way and yet man has changed this very important commandment. Wouldn't this be considered false doctrine and wouldn't the people preaching at these churches be considered false prophets (which God warned us about keeping on the alert for so as to not be deceived)?
Answer Thankyou for your question Karen
In regard to the sabbath, the church can not keep the sabbath because that covenant was to the JEWS only. The sabbath was given only to the JEWS in the old testament. When I speak of the church I speak of the one founded on the Day of Pentecost (ACTS 2). So that church is never told in the new testament to keep the sabbath, why?...because that was only to the Jews. Now in the new testament we have examples (Acts 20:7, I Corin. 16:2) of disciple of Jesus coming together on the first day of the week in acts of worship (which is why the church worships on the first day of the week). The sabbath of course was the seventh day (Saturday). God does want us to keep his commandments, and he also wants us to divide the Word of Truth accurately (II Tim. 2:15). We must understand the old and new testaments properly so we can divide the word of truth accurately as well.
