AboutOnaga Thomas Expertise I am a member of the Park East Church of Christ in Denver, CO. I can answer any questions any people out there have regarding the Churches of Christ. Experience I was born and raised in the Church of Christ and was baptized at age 10. With the help of my mother and father, brothers and sisters of the church, christian friends etc...I have a profound knowledge of the truth about the Word of God. I am strong in my beliefs and convictions and will answer anyones questions with scriptual knowledge and fact. I want to boldly proclaim the true Word of God according to Bible principal instead of what I think or what someone has told me.
In Acts 2:38 the Bible says that when you are baptised into Christ, you receive the Holy Spirit as a gift from God. Now...the Bible also teaches from the OT into the NT that God's Spirit has been around from the beginning of time. What is the difference between the Holy Spirit that you receive at baptism and the Holy Spirit that has been around?
Answer Thankyou for your question Melissa
The Holy Spirit is the same Spirit that is eternal, part of the Godhead (THE FATHER, SON, THE SPIRIT). The difference would be how the spirit functioned in regard to the Church. Jesus had told the apostles to wait in Jerusalem until the holy spirit would be given unto them, which is what occured in Acts 2. Those that repented and where baptized for the remission of their sins would recieve the holy spirit (THE SPIRIT'S NEW FUNTION NOW BEING GIVEN TO THE CHURCH). The church coming into existense is why the holy spirit would have to be functioned differently. Jesus had gone back to the Father, so he promised he would send the Counselor (The Spirit) for guidance ( for the apostles the Spirit would bring back to remembrance everything Jesus had told them and guide them into all the truth)....for the Church, the Spirit was given after they obeyed the gospel, repented and were baptized for the remission of sins, then given the gift of the Holy Spirit and the Lord added them into the church (Acts 2:38-42).
