Thank You

Answer
First of all, Darlene, please accept my PROFOUND apologies for the length of time it has taken me to answer this question. I started answering your question three separate times and had multiple issues which caused me to lose the info I had written and also had a number of things come up all at once. So PLEASE forgive me for this. Now, FINALLY here is my answer.

1. Psalm 2:6-7

This  is talking about Jesus becoming King and reigning over Jerusalem, which is, at least partly, a symbol of His reign over Christians as well. Later, Jesus will reign over all creation. Even though Jesus was already God's Son, for our sake God created a symbol to help us in our understanding. Jesus died and was buried. He was dead. But He did not stay dead. He was reborn to new life coming out of the tomb (born again). Jesus was "begotten" when he exited the tomb of resurrection. He lived again, therefore, was born again. God was intending to show us how we become sons. We also die, are buried and are resurrected to become sons. When we come forth from our resurrection we are said to have been born again as SONS. This happens at baptism. This is clearly shown in Romans 6:1-9.

2. 2 Samuel 7:12-17

This is pointing to the time when Jesus would come and become an eternal King who while having been born in the flesh will perpetuate David's reign. Him also being God means that His reign will be spiritual in nature. His reign is not over those who will die but those who will live forever. The references to Him being punished for iniquity were references to Him being punished for OUR sins since He had no sins of His own.

3. Psalm 4

I don't see this one as being messianic and prophetic like the rest.

4. Psalm 45

A prophetic reference to the Jesus becoming the Great King in the future and the fact that He would reign absolutely. His arrows would seem to point to the fact that Jesus will exercise justice and attempt to get to people through their hearts and inward parts.

5. Psalm 110:1

This is a reference to Messiah and King as referenced by Peter in his first sermon over in Acts 2. Many thought it referred to David but the apostle Peter pointed out that David, who wrote this, referred to the person spoken of as MY Lord. If Jesus was the son of David, how could He be his Lord?

I consider Psalm 2:6-7, 2 Samuel 7:12-17, Psalm 45 and Psalm 110:1 to all have in common that they are Messianic prophecies referencing the coming of Jesus as the Eternal King who would would perpetuate David's throne into eternity in a MOST magnificent way. I don't really see that Psalm 4 has this same thing in common with the others.

Expertise

I strive to intelligently and respectfully discuss thoughtful questions pertaining to doctrinal issues within the Churches of Christ and feel I can contribute thoughtful answers in most cases. I feel myself to be especially adept when answering questions regarding the Gospel of Christ and baptism. I always strive to be humble, realizing that there are some issues that are respectfully and honorably debatable. I realize that the Bible is perfect and able to provide any truth that the seeker of truth is after. At the same time I realize that though I am very conscientious about pointing people in the right direction, I am still a fallible human being and certainly capable of making mistakes. I will always give my opinion AS my opinion and strive not to state as fact something which cannot be supported by good logic or a good thorough study through the scriptures.

Experience

I am a minister within the Churches of Christ. I have been preaching for 14 years and have been on five separate mission trips to the Volta Region of Ghana, West Africa. I have preached the Gospel to literally thousands of people and it is my passion to do so.
