Churches Of Christ/non-institutional

Question
What is meant by non-instutional Church of Christ?

Answer
Hi Sue,

The simple answer is that the non-institutional congregations within the churches of Christ are those congregations who believe there is no Bible authority for the support of institutions such as colleges (e.g. Freed-Hardeman, Harding), orphanages, nursing homes, and so on from the collective treasury of the congregation.  They believe that works such as orphanages and nursing homes should be supported by individuals rather than the congregation and in many cases the individuals of the NI congregations are VERY active in those institutions in their local city.

Non-institutional congregations are not to be confused with other groups generally labeled as "anti" who believe in using only one cup for the Lord's Supper, and no Bible classes, though such congregations are generally also non-institutional.

I hope that answers your question sufficiently. :)
