Churches Of Christ/God's House
Expert: Jim Samoh - 5/14/2007
QuestionQUESTION: According to scripture, in the time period of the New Testament, what is God's house?
ANSWER: In the new testament the house of God is referring to the Temple in Jerusalem, up until the death and resurrection of Christ. After that point the house of God is not referred to very often, instead the phrase the "body of Christ" is used to indicate believers as they are considered more important than a mere building(Holy as it was). I hope this explanation makes sense to you. If not simply expound upon your question with some more specifics you need answers to.

QUESTION: Marc,
Paul uses the phrase in 1 Tim. 3:15. Was he telling Timothy how to behave in the Temple in Jerusalem, or what?
Thanks,
Ernie
AnswerThe scripture you are referring to is "But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth." (1 Tim 3:15) the key being the church of the living God part. This would indicate that you should behave yourself while in the company of believers gathering for a spiritual purpose.
