Churches Of Christ/Why do you not answer what you are asked?
Expert: Marvin Howard - 3/6/2006
Question Preach....I read one of the subject matters concerning Homosexuality and noticed that the person that asked you the question asked for your personal opinion on the matter. You stated that it did not matter what you believed personally but what the Bible had to say about it was what mattered. So I ask you again....what are your personal views and beliefs concerning gays, lesbians, transsexuals, Bi-gendered peoples?
Sincerely ...Pris
AnswerHi!
Pris, thank you for taking the time to ask. I believe John 3:16 when God says He loves the world. So do I. But, I also believe Matthew 7:14 where God says most of the world will be lost. I love everyone so much that I fight daily to see that as few people will be lost as possible, even through much personal trial and affliction.
With that said, my personal belief, even though it is unimportant for I did not make the rules, is that God is right when He said He made one a woman to be the suitable helper for the man in Genesis 2:18-24. I believe that God is right when He says that in marriage a man will cleave to a wife; not to another husband in Genesis 2:24 and Matthew 19:5. I believe that God is right when He said that neither homosexuals nor the effiminate would see heaven in 1st Corinthians 6:9-10, and that they were equal with murderers, in Romans 1:29-31. Some of those in Corinth were once homosexual, but they left the practice in order to become Christians. The "science" which says we have no choice in the matter is declared false by none other than God Himself. The fact that He uses the two groups in a contrasting manner proves that a person cannot be both Christian and homosexual at the same time.
Now the world that is lost, and even many who errantly "claim" to be Christians, have forgotten the Word, or simply ignore it altogether. They have itching ears (2nd Timothy 4:3) and find liars who will tell them what they want to hear. Such is usually the case when one asks for opinion rather than Scripture. I, for one, refuse to scratch the itch. If I answer with my opinion, and it is different from theirs, they will inevitably say I am wrong and go on there merry, sinful way. If I claim that what the Scriptures say is my opinion, I give them reason to doubt whether that which God plainly says is the proper interpretation. If I answer with my opinion, and it is the same as theirs, I have given them liscense to be lost if I ignore Scripture. I would be responsible to God for the burning and torment of their souls. However, if I answer with God's opinion from Scriptures, then it is much harder for them to tell God that He is wrong when the evidence is laid before them.
The instance of "Bi-gendered" people depends on exactly what you mean with the use of the term. If you mean those that are born with a defect that gives them both sets of organs, then that is the way that God made them. However, that is not the proper term for that condition. The correct term is Hermaphrodite. Usually, your term is reserved for those who surgically change what God wanted them to be. They have such a disregard for God's plan, they want so badly to be with their own sex, that they attempt to thwart God's design. They say, "God you were wrong in what you made me." I am sorry, but God didn't make a mistake. These people strive to be the creator, rather than the created; they make themselves into god. In so doing, they practice idolatry, and fall under the same condemnation we saw earlier in 1st Corinthians 6:9-10.
I love the sinner, just as does God, but I hate the sin. Just as God will not look at it (Habakkuk 1:13) in concession, neither will I. I am sorry that it seemed like I was uncaring for the request of the previous poster. The problem I faced in my answer is that I cared more for his eternal soul. I can have no opinion that differs from Scripture, and be correct in my stand. Therefore, I can never answer with an opinion, unless the topic is one that is not covered in Scripture. When that is the case, I say so. Homosexuality does not fall into this category, for God is very clear.
If you need any further information, please do not hesitate to ask.
