Cigars/Wrapped Cigars & Humidor

Question
I have recently purchased a number of lesser expensive dominican cigars and all came individually wrapped in cellophane.  Some appear sealed and others appear folded at one end and sealed at the other.

Should these be left wrapped?  Does it help or hurt the storage of the cigars?  Should they be kept in my humidor?

Inquiring minds (and lesser priced cigar shoppers) need to know.

Thank you.

Answer
George,

I always suggest that cigars be stored inside their cellophane wrappers. Cellophane is somewhat porous which is why cigars will dry out even though they are sealed in it. Since it is porous, they can also absorb moisture through it, so they will stay fresh inside a humidor even while wrapped. By keeping them in their wrappers you protect them from becoming scratched or otherwise damaged while handling them or transporting them to a dinner, golf game...

Let me know if you have other questions.

Expertise

I'm a fourth generation cigar maker and have spent 25+ years operating our factory as well as a mail order cigar company. I belong to cigar manufacturers associations as well as retail cigar associations so I'm usually up to date with current events relating to cigars. I've smoked the majority of brands on the market and would be happy to share my opinions of them with you. Since I live in the U.S. I have very little experience with Cuban cigars, but other than that I know a least a little bit about almost every brand of cigars on the market.

Experience

In addition to growing up in and now managing our cigar factory for 25+ years, I've spent time in many factories in Honduras, Nicaragua, The Dominican Republic and Mexico. BR>
