Question
QUESTION: Is there such a thing as a 40 Aniversario Cohiba in a double corona?  Just wondering, thanks

ANSWER: Hi Greg,

Cohiba's 40th Anniversario cigar is actually called a "Behike".  It is often mistaken for a double corona cigar but it is actually considered a "double robusto".  The Behike measures 7 1/2 inches long by 52 ring gauge.  It is from a limited edition humidor celebrating Cohiba's 40th anniversary.  It is not not available for sale in regular dress boxes and the Behike is considered the most expensive Cuban cigar ever made.  Only 4,000 Behike cigars and 100 limited edition humidors (40 Behikes per humidor) were produced for Cohiba's 40th Anniversary.

QUESTION: I saw some double coronas with a 40 aniversario band on them.  Do you think they are real Cohibas? Thanks.

Answer
Greg,

The only Cohiba double corona I can recall is the Edicion Limitada.  Cohiba's 40th anniversary cigars are extremely expensive (The Behike humidor originally sold for $18,000 with an average price of $400 per Behike.) so if the Cohiba 40th anniversary double coronas that you saw are inexpensively priced (compared to the Behike), I doubt they are real.

Double check with the seller and ask about the cigar's measurements.  A Behike is 7 1/2 by 52 ring gauge and would have a second cigar band, individually numbered, on it that reads "Behike".

James

Expertise

My main area of expertise is Cuban cigars but I can also assist you with cigar etiquette, humidor maintenance and troubleshooting. Unsure of a certain cigar brand? Wondering what a certain cigar tastes like? Have any questions about Cuban cigars? Just let me know! I have smoked every brand of Cuban cigars and most reputable non-Cuban cigar brands on a regular basis so I know a fair bit about taste profiles, cigar etiquette and other fine nuances to cigar smoking. (NOTE: My main focus is on premium, hand-rolled cigars and not cheap, machine made, convenience store cigars.) IMPORTANT: PLEASE NOTE THAT I DO NOT PROVIDE CIGAR OR CIGAR-RELATED APPRAISALS. If you have a vintage cigar item and you want to know if it's worth something, please contact an antique dealer that specializes in "TOBACCIANA".

Experience

I currently have 19 dedicated years of cigar smoking and counting. I have smoked every brand of Cuban cigars and most reputable non-Cuban cigar brands on a regular basis so I know a fair bit about taste profiles, cigar etiquette and other fine nuances to cigar smoking. For 5 years, I studied with Cuban torcedores (rollers), catadores (taste testers) and revisadores (inspectors) on every aspect involving the production of the Cuban cigar and I am currently writing a book that will help beginners understand everything they need to know about cigars and cigar smoking.
