Question
Is it better to leave cigars that come in glass tubes in the tubes when placing in the humidor or should they be removed?

Hi Bob,

The cap on most glass cigar tubes are not 100% airtight so it's perfectly fine to leave the cigars in their cigar tubes while in your humidor.  If however, you are in a rush to smoke the cigar or the cigar feels a bit dry in your humidor, you may want to remove or loosen the cap or remove the cigar from the glass tube altogether.  This can also apply to cigars in aluminum cigar tubes or cellophane wrappers.

Keeping your cigars in their original cigar tubes and plastic wrappers is a good idea because it will prevent the cigar from unforeseen disasters such as tobacco beetle infestations and cigar mold outbreaks.

I currently have 19 dedicated years of cigar smoking and counting. I have smoked every brand of Cuban cigars and most reputable non-Cuban cigar brands on a regular basis so I know a fair bit about taste profiles, cigar etiquette and other fine nuances to cigar smoking. For 5 years, I studied with Cuban torcedores (rollers), catadores (taste testers) and revisadores (inspectors) on every aspect involving the production of the Cuban cigar and I am currently writing a book that will help beginners understand everything they need to know about cigars and cigar smoking.
