Cigars/humidor problem

Question
I've been start smoking cigar since last september!!!  Still newbie, but like all my hobbies that i get into, intense research is done.

Well... I acquired a 8 cubic feet cabinet humidor that was sold by local cigar store.  i guess they are going out of business.  I am so proud of this piece.  It has glass on all sides except bottom.  For the humidifier, I am using what it came with... it is two clay bricks that suppose keep the humidor at 70% humidity.  It works wonderfully

Problem is that I don't think... I Have a very good seal on it.  This humidor is in my room, and you can smell those cigars.  It is not super strong like when you step into actually step into your local cigar place.  But there is small gap between the door.  I've tried to readjust the screws, but the weight of the door is too much.

How should I seal it?  Cedar?  Chemical Sealant?  Foam?

Answer
Hi Dae,

A faint aroma of cigars is common with most display cabinet humidors because the door(s) rarely have a super tight seal but if you wish to seal your door, the best option for sealing your humidor is to use either a foam or rubber adhesive strip that you can fit in the gap or the edge of the door.  Most hardware stores carry this type of product for weatherproofing doors and windows to prevent air drafts.  They're sold in rolls so all you need to do is measure how much you need and then cut to fit.  The best part about these is that they use a sticky tape adhesive and you can remove the trim anytime you want.  I wouldn't recommend anything permanent or chemical-based because it may damage your humidor or ruin it's appearance. (Sounds like you have a really nice humidor.)

Hope this answers your question. If you have any more questions, please feel free to just ask and I'll be happy to help.

Regards,
James

Expertise

My main area of expertise is Cuban cigars but I can also assist you with cigar etiquette, humidor maintenance and troubleshooting. Unsure of a certain cigar brand? Wondering what a certain cigar tastes like? Have any questions about Cuban cigars? Just let me know! I have smoked every brand of Cuban cigars and most reputable non-Cuban cigar brands on a regular basis so I know a fair bit about taste profiles, cigar etiquette and other fine nuances to cigar smoking. (NOTE: My main focus is on premium, hand-rolled cigars and not cheap, machine made, convenience store cigars.) IMPORTANT: PLEASE NOTE THAT I DO NOT PROVIDE CIGAR OR CIGAR-RELATED APPRAISALS. If you have a vintage cigar item and you want to know if it's worth something, please contact an antique dealer that specializes in "TOBACCIANA".

Experience

I currently have 19 dedicated years of cigar smoking and counting. I have smoked every brand of Cuban cigars and most reputable non-Cuban cigar brands on a regular basis so I know a fair bit about taste profiles, cigar etiquette and other fine nuances to cigar smoking. For 5 years, I studied with Cuban torcedores (rollers), catadores (taste testers) and revisadores (inspectors) on every aspect involving the production of the Cuban cigar and I am currently writing a book that will help beginners understand everything they need to know about cigars and cigar smoking.
