Question
Hello mate
I'm a little confused about hygrometers and the Max-Min??
I mean if the reading is 70% if you press the Max button its says 80 or 85%, if you press the Min it says 56 or 66%! I just dont understand this and So what is the actual reading?
Also can you give your verdict on some cigars which i'm dying to try: H. Upmann No2, Trinidad Robustos Extra and Punch-Punch(cuban)

Answer
Hi Mario,

Digital hygrometers have a Max and Min button so it can show you what the highest humidity reading is as well as the lowest reading.  For example, the reading that is always displayed will be the current humidity level.  When you press the "Max" (or "High") button, it will temporarily display the highest humidity level the hygrometer ever measured.  If you press the "Min" (or "Low") button, the hygrometer will display the lowest humidity level that the hygrometer has ever measured.  The Max/Min buttons are really handy when you want to know the varying humidity levels inside your humidor or home.  (Home hygrometers also have this function.)

As for cigars, Punch Punch is the best of the three; especially if you can find a dark, oily batch.  The Trinidad is also a good cigar that I'm sure will taste better the longer they're aged.  The Upmann is more medium-bodied but still ages extremely well and is full of flavour.  It lacks strength but makes up for it in flavour.

Hope this answers your question. If you have any more questions, please feel free to just ask and I'll be happy to help.

Regards,
James

Expertise

My main area of expertise is Cuban cigars but I can also assist you with cigar etiquette, humidor maintenance and troubleshooting. Unsure of a certain cigar brand? Wondering what a certain cigar tastes like? Have any questions about Cuban cigars? Just let me know! I have smoked every brand of Cuban cigars and most reputable non-Cuban cigar brands on a regular basis so I know a fair bit about taste profiles, cigar etiquette and other fine nuances to cigar smoking. (NOTE: My main focus is on premium, hand-rolled cigars and not cheap, machine made, convenience store cigars.) IMPORTANT: PLEASE NOTE THAT I DO NOT PROVIDE CIGAR OR CIGAR-RELATED APPRAISALS. If you have a vintage cigar item and you want to know if it's worth something, please contact an antique dealer that specializes in "TOBACCIANA".

Experience

I currently have 19 dedicated years of cigar smoking and counting. I have smoked every brand of Cuban cigars and most reputable non-Cuban cigar brands on a regular basis so I know a fair bit about taste profiles, cigar etiquette and other fine nuances to cigar smoking. For 5 years, I studied with Cuban torcedores (rollers), catadores (taste testers) and revisadores (inspectors) on every aspect involving the production of the Cuban cigar and I am currently writing a book that will help beginners understand everything they need to know about cigars and cigar smoking.
