Question
I seasoned the humidor I brought back from Cuba, and guess what? The hinges came apart, then the bottom... at 35 pesos what can I expect? So I ru<an to a nearby store and bought another humidor, the difference is noticeable: top and bottom panels are just as thick as the sides. I seasoned it for three days and now my sticks are in their new home, like you said. I used the supplied oasis with 50/50 pre-mixed "Xigar" brand liquid. Humidity is rock solid at 71%. It's very easy to do!

I forgot to mention I brought some "Siglo VI" for a friend. He was quite delighted after tasting one. What is your call and this particular cigar?
Thanks

Answer
Hi Jean-Francois,

I'm glad to hear you solved your humidor problem.  Yeah, sometimes Cuban humidors aren't exactly "top-quality" and can fall apart.  I also bought a Cuban humidor once that eventually fell apart at the hinges after a few months.

Siglo VI is a great cigar.  It's full of incredible flavours (which is expected from a large cigar like the VI) plus they age very well.  The first year Siglo VIs were incredible; full-bodied and rich with flavours.  I personally prefer Siglo IV & V more but do occassionally enjoy a good VI.  It's a strong, hearty cigar that's perfect for when you just finished a full, satisfying meal or want to relax late into the evening with a good cigar and a good drink.

Regards,
James

Expertise

My main area of expertise is Cuban cigars but I can also assist you with cigar etiquette, humidor maintenance and troubleshooting. Unsure of a certain cigar brand? Wondering what a certain cigar tastes like? Have any questions about Cuban cigars? Just let me know! I have smoked every brand of Cuban cigars and most reputable non-Cuban cigar brands on a regular basis so I know a fair bit about taste profiles, cigar etiquette and other fine nuances to cigar smoking. (NOTE: My main focus is on premium, hand-rolled cigars and not cheap, machine made, convenience store cigars.) IMPORTANT: PLEASE NOTE THAT I DO NOT PROVIDE CIGAR OR CIGAR-RELATED APPRAISALS. If you have a vintage cigar item and you want to know if it's worth something, please contact an antique dealer that specializes in "TOBACCIANA".

Experience

I currently have 19 dedicated years of cigar smoking and counting. I have smoked every brand of Cuban cigars and most reputable non-Cuban cigar brands on a regular basis so I know a fair bit about taste profiles, cigar etiquette and other fine nuances to cigar smoking. For 5 years, I studied with Cuban torcedores (rollers), catadores (taste testers) and revisadores (inspectors) on every aspect involving the production of the Cuban cigar and I am currently writing a book that will help beginners understand everything they need to know about cigars and cigar smoking.
