Question
Hi James,

I am new to cigar smoking and bought my humidor not long ago...
It may sounds laughable but -
My question is:
Because I like to keep my smoking things together -Can I keep my lighter and cigar cutter inside of the humidor with the cigars -without causing any damage to the cigars? ie. taste change etc...

Please let me know.

Thanks.
Jan

Answer
Hi Jan,

Yes, you can definitely keep your lighters and cutters in your humidor and your cigars will not be in any danger.  Normally storing lighters inside a humidor is not a problem but there have been times where a defective lighter would leak fluid inside the humidor.  When storing lighters in your humidor, just make sure that the lighter(s) are not defective or at risk of leaking fluid and everything will be ok.

Some cutters and lighters have also been known to tarnish over time while in a humidified environment so if you do keep them in your humidor, try to keep them stored in a small box or cloth bag.

As an alternative, there are also some humidors that actually have storage drawers (usually felt lined) built into the humidor but not connected to the humidified compartments.  These storage drawers are intended for storing your cigar tools and accessories so if you have a large collection cigars and lighters, you may want to consider investing in this type of humidor.

Hope this answers your question. If you have any more questions, please feel free to just ask and I will be happy to help.

Regards,
James

Expertise

My main area of expertise is Cuban cigars but I can also assist you with cigar etiquette, humidor maintenance and troubleshooting. Unsure of a certain cigar brand? Wondering what a certain cigar tastes like? Have any questions about Cuban cigars? Just let me know! I have smoked every brand of Cuban cigars and most reputable non-Cuban cigar brands on a regular basis so I know a fair bit about taste profiles, cigar etiquette and other fine nuances to cigar smoking. (NOTE: My main focus is on premium, hand-rolled cigars and not cheap, machine made, convenience store cigars.) IMPORTANT: PLEASE NOTE THAT I DO NOT PROVIDE CIGAR OR CIGAR-RELATED APPRAISALS. If you have a vintage cigar item and you want to know if it's worth something, please contact an antique dealer that specializes in "TOBACCIANA".

Experience

I currently have 19 dedicated years of cigar smoking and counting. I have smoked every brand of Cuban cigars and most reputable non-Cuban cigar brands on a regular basis so I know a fair bit about taste profiles, cigar etiquette and other fine nuances to cigar smoking. For 5 years, I studied with Cuban torcedores (rollers), catadores (taste testers) and revisadores (inspectors) on every aspect involving the production of the Cuban cigar and I am currently writing a book that will help beginners understand everything they need to know about cigars and cigar smoking.
