Question
Hi Mr Yee,

I have a very important question: I would like to buy a large humidor, I
already have a humidor for 1000 cigar capacity, but it will be filled within the
next year. I humidify it natural, but I would like to purchase a electric
humidifying device for my next 3000 cigar humidor. Thus far no problems.
But there also is the trouble with temperature. There was a very hot period
here in Belgium, and again I had trouble with the cigar beetle. I check my
cigars a lot, so only 2 casualties this outbreak, and some cutt off...
This is all due to not be able to control the temperature. I don't have a cooler
place to store them, and my humi is not 100% airtight, altough I do not think
that would matter. Is there an electronic device that could regulate
humidification and temperature in a big humidor (not a walk inn, but a loose
one, e.g. 6 feet high, 2 feet deep and 2 feet wide)? Or do I have to work with
an airconditioning in the room?

thank you for an answer

Answer
Hi Bart,

Yes, there are indeed humidor cabinets that can electronically control the temperature and humidity and you can also order custom electronic units to install into your existing humidor cabinet.

You will need to speak with your local cigar store and they should be able to direct you to distributors or manufacturers in Belgium.  There are many companies based in North America that makes these cabinets but I'm not sure if they distribute or service in Belgium.  Your local cigar store should be able to help you or at least direct you to a company near Belgium that can help you.

Until then, try to locate your humidor(s) to the coolest room possible.  Avoid placing them near windows or sources of lighting such as natural sunlight, or desk lamps with incandescent or halogen lightbulbs.  A basement or cellar is ideal and much cooler if your home is extremely hot during the summer months.  If this is not possible, you will need to use your home's air-conditioning.

Hopes this answers your question. If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask and I will be happy to help.

Regards,
James

Expertise

My main area of expertise is Cuban cigars but I can also assist you with cigar etiquette, humidor maintenance and troubleshooting. Unsure of a certain cigar brand? Wondering what a certain cigar tastes like? Have any questions about Cuban cigars? Just let me know! I have smoked every brand of Cuban cigars and most reputable non-Cuban cigar brands on a regular basis so I know a fair bit about taste profiles, cigar etiquette and other fine nuances to cigar smoking. (NOTE: My main focus is on premium, hand-rolled cigars and not cheap, machine made, convenience store cigars.) IMPORTANT: PLEASE NOTE THAT I DO NOT PROVIDE CIGAR OR CIGAR-RELATED APPRAISALS. If you have a vintage cigar item and you want to know if it's worth something, please contact an antique dealer that specializes in "TOBACCIANA".

Experience

I currently have 19 dedicated years of cigar smoking and counting. I have smoked every brand of Cuban cigars and most reputable non-Cuban cigar brands on a regular basis so I know a fair bit about taste profiles, cigar etiquette and other fine nuances to cigar smoking. For 5 years, I studied with Cuban torcedores (rollers), catadores (taste testers) and revisadores (inspectors) on every aspect involving the production of the Cuban cigar and I am currently writing a book that will help beginners understand everything they need to know about cigars and cigar smoking.
