Cigars/seasoning large humidor

Question
Hllo
I just got a large humidor and have been seasoning it now for 2days, i dont really like the method of wipeing it down with water, i put 2dishes filled with water one on the bottem and one up top plus 2 humidifier's and the reading has stayed at 66%. Do you think the humidity will go up any higher if i wait a few more days cause i know readings can be a little low when there is so much empty space or do you think its ready for cigars to be placed inside and see if it make change.
THANKS

Answer
Hi Mario,

When using this seasoning method (using dishes instead of wiping humidor down with water), it will actually take longer for the humidor to be seasoned so you should let the dishes of water sit for several more days and the humidity will definitely rise.  66% is still a bit low and requires more seasoning.

Adding an additional dish of water will also speed up the seasoning process.  Also, if you haven't already, be sure to salt test your hygrometer (if analog) to make sure that it's accurate and functioning properly.  Sometimes hygrometers are out of sync on brand new humidors and require calibration. If you're using a digital hygrometer, it should already be factory-calibrated and working properly.

Hopes this answers your question. If you have any more questions, please feel free to just ask and I will be happy to help.

Regards,
James

Expertise

My main area of expertise is Cuban cigars but I can also assist you with cigar etiquette, humidor maintenance and troubleshooting. Unsure of a certain cigar brand? Wondering what a certain cigar tastes like? Have any questions about Cuban cigars? Just let me know! I have smoked every brand of Cuban cigars and most reputable non-Cuban cigar brands on a regular basis so I know a fair bit about taste profiles, cigar etiquette and other fine nuances to cigar smoking. (NOTE: My main focus is on premium, hand-rolled cigars and not cheap, machine made, convenience store cigars.) IMPORTANT: PLEASE NOTE THAT I DO NOT PROVIDE CIGAR OR CIGAR-RELATED APPRAISALS. If you have a vintage cigar item and you want to know if it's worth something, please contact an antique dealer that specializes in "TOBACCIANA".

Experience

I currently have 19 dedicated years of cigar smoking and counting. I have smoked every brand of Cuban cigars and most reputable non-Cuban cigar brands on a regular basis so I know a fair bit about taste profiles, cigar etiquette and other fine nuances to cigar smoking. For 5 years, I studied with Cuban torcedores (rollers), catadores (taste testers) and revisadores (inspectors) on every aspect involving the production of the Cuban cigar and I am currently writing a book that will help beginners understand everything they need to know about cigars and cigar smoking.
