Cigars/80% humidity (sorry)

Question
Mr. Finck - sorry for ANOTHER question on humidors. I've got a new Savoy that I seasoned, but the humidity is at 80%, which I know is bad (even though it's winter here in MA). I don't have more cigars or cedar to put in it at the moment, to absorb the extra moisture. Is it OK to just leave the lid of the humidor up, and let some "dry" air in for a while, to reduce the humidity in there?

Answer
Chris,

If the relative humidity is 80% and your temperature is warmer than 60 degrees, then yes you can leave the lid open for a while and let it dry out a bit. before you do that, make sure you are getting an accurate reading from your hygrometer. If you haven't tested it, send me your email address and I'll send you a procedure to check it. b.finck@finckcigarcompany.com

Thanks,
Bill

Expertise

I'm a fourth generation cigar maker and have spent 25+ years operating our factory as well as a mail order cigar company. I belong to cigar manufacturers associations as well as retail cigar associations so I'm usually up to date with current events relating to cigars. I've smoked the majority of brands on the market and would be happy to share my opinions of them with you. Since I live in the U.S. I have very little experience with Cuban cigars, but other than that I know a least a little bit about almost every brand of cigars on the market.

Experience

In addition to growing up in and now managing our cigar factory for 25+ years, I've spent time in many factories in Honduras, Nicaragua, The Dominican Republic and Mexico. BR>
