Cigars/Cigar Humidification System

Question
QUESTION: Hi,
I am looking to purchase a 300ct humidor soon and am undecided on which humidifier to purchase for it.  I am looking at either the Cigar Oasis XL or XL plus vs. the La Veil humidifier system.  They are both about the same price.  Do you recommend one over the other?  I am an new to this and not sure which is the best buy for my money.

ANSWER: Hi Lou,

Of the two, I would personally recommend Cigar Oasis. Le Veil humidifiers were really good (ie: best value for the money) but recently, have had bad reviews for being faulty and not performing well so I wouldn't suggest you protect your cigar collection with it.  Cigar Oasis is more reliable and because it's a more well-known brand, it is easier to have your humidification device serviced or repaired if needed.

If you're still undecided, there are a lot of reviews and various cigar forum discussions about these two humidifiers as well as other electronic humidifiers that you may want to consider.  (These reviews/discussions can be found with google.)

Again, Le Veil would be the best buy for your money but Cigar Oasis would be the better investment to maintain your cigar collection.  I would recommend Cigar Oasis now.

Hopes this helps.  If you have any more questions, please feel free to just ask and I will be happy to help.

Regards,
James

QUESTION: James,
Then if you recommend Cigar Oasis, which of the two models would you recommend for my humidor.  I am looking at the Versaille 300ct humidor with analog hygrometer.  I figure with one of the CO humidifiers which are digital I can really control the humidity in the unit.  Now, I don't know which of the two (XL or XL Plus) I should purchase.

Answer
Hi Lou,

For a 300-count humidor, the Cigar Oasis XL should be perfectly fine.  The XL Plus is designed for larger humidor chests and cabinets and can humidify up to 10 cubic feet but if you're strictly using the CO in a 300 ct humidor, it's not necessary to purchase the XL Plus.

Hopes this helps.  As always, if you have any more questions, please feel free to just ask and I will be happy to help.

Regards,
James

Expertise

My main area of expertise is Cuban cigars but I can also assist you with cigar etiquette, humidor maintenance and troubleshooting. Unsure of a certain cigar brand? Wondering what a certain cigar tastes like? Have any questions about Cuban cigars? Just let me know! I have smoked every brand of Cuban cigars and most reputable non-Cuban cigar brands on a regular basis so I know a fair bit about taste profiles, cigar etiquette and other fine nuances to cigar smoking. (NOTE: My main focus is on premium, hand-rolled cigars and not cheap, machine made, convenience store cigars.) IMPORTANT: PLEASE NOTE THAT I DO NOT PROVIDE CIGAR OR CIGAR-RELATED APPRAISALS. If you have a vintage cigar item and you want to know if it's worth something, please contact an antique dealer that specializes in "TOBACCIANA".

Experience

I currently have 19 dedicated years of cigar smoking and counting. I have smoked every brand of Cuban cigars and most reputable non-Cuban cigar brands on a regular basis so I know a fair bit about taste profiles, cigar etiquette and other fine nuances to cigar smoking. For 5 years, I studied with Cuban torcedores (rollers), catadores (taste testers) and revisadores (inspectors) on every aspect involving the production of the Cuban cigar and I am currently writing a book that will help beginners understand everything they need to know about cigars and cigar smoking.
