Question
Which Hoyo de Monterrey Habana cigar is closest to a 6" by 50 ring (typically, a Toro)?

Same question as to their torpedo with a 50 or 52 ring?

And, which is the better cigar of the two?

Answer
Hi Rick,

These are the Cuban Hoyo de Monterrey cigars closest to the 6x50 toro size:

Épicure No. 1 - 5 5/8" x 46 Corona Gorda (but also known as a toro)
Épicure No. 2 - 4 7/8" x 50 Robusto
Churchill - 7" x 47 Churchill
Épicure Especial (2004 Edicion Limitada) - 5 1/2" x 50 Gordito (robusto extra)
Regalos (2007 Edicion Limitada) - 5 1/3" x 56 Coronas Extra

Please note that the Edicion Limitada cigars are limited editions and are not part of the regular production cigars.

As for torpedos, Hoyo de Monterrey does have a piramide but it is only available as a Edicion Limitada (2003).  A Cuban Hoyo piramide can also be found in the Seleccion Piramide 5-pack sampler.

Hopes this answers your question.  If you have any more questions, please feel free to just ask.

Regards,
James

Expertise

My main area of expertise is Cuban cigars but I can also assist you with cigar etiquette, humidor maintenance and troubleshooting. Unsure of a certain cigar brand? Wondering what a certain cigar tastes like? Have any questions about Cuban cigars? Just let me know! I have smoked every brand of Cuban cigars and most reputable non-Cuban cigar brands on a regular basis so I know a fair bit about taste profiles, cigar etiquette and other fine nuances to cigar smoking. (NOTE: My main focus is on premium, hand-rolled cigars and not cheap, machine made, convenience store cigars.) IMPORTANT: PLEASE NOTE THAT I DO NOT PROVIDE CIGAR OR CIGAR-RELATED APPRAISALS. If you have a vintage cigar item and you want to know if it's worth something, please contact an antique dealer that specializes in "TOBACCIANA".

Experience

I currently have 19 dedicated years of cigar smoking and counting. I have smoked every brand of Cuban cigars and most reputable non-Cuban cigar brands on a regular basis so I know a fair bit about taste profiles, cigar etiquette and other fine nuances to cigar smoking. For 5 years, I studied with Cuban torcedores (rollers), catadores (taste testers) and revisadores (inspectors) on every aspect involving the production of the Cuban cigar and I am currently writing a book that will help beginners understand everything they need to know about cigars and cigar smoking.
