Question
I have a humidor (had for a long time) always had the analog hygrometer in it and just about always registers about 70.  Just put in a digital hygrometer a day ago and its only getting as high as 40??? I've reset it a couple times but nothing??

Answer
Jeff,

Since you've had the humidor a long time and know it well, how were your cigars when you stored them in there for an extended period of time? If the humidor is actually at 40% humidity, you'd notice drying out right within a few days. If your old hygrometer was wrong, you'd know it by the condition of the cigars.

Have you put the new digital hygrometer and the old one both in the humidor at the same time? If they are both at 40% then you need to figure out what changed.

If your cigars were being maintained well with the old hygrometer, it still reads 70% and the digital reads 40%, then there is obviously something wrong with the new hygrometer. If it is adjustable you can re-set it using the salt test method, or just return it. If you'd like instructions on how to do the salt test to check the accuracy of your hygrometer, send me your email address and I'll send you the instructions. b.finck@finckcigarcompany.com

Expertise

I'm a fourth generation cigar maker and have spent 25+ years operating our factory as well as a mail order cigar company. I belong to cigar manufacturers associations as well as retail cigar associations so I'm usually up to date with current events relating to cigars. I've smoked the majority of brands on the market and would be happy to share my opinions of them with you. Since I live in the U.S. I have very little experience with Cuban cigars, but other than that I know a least a little bit about almost every brand of cigars on the market.

Experience

In addition to growing up in and now managing our cigar factory for 25+ years, I've spent time in many factories in Honduras, Nicaragua, The Dominican Republic and Mexico. BR>
