Question
Welcome back and happy new year!

Going to Varadero month end. I know of LCDH at plaza las americas mall (never been though). Would you know if LCDH will sell individual sticks? I am eager to try as many kinds of Cubans as my lungs can possibly handle but rumor has it that you cannot purchase singles.
I also will be picking up boxes of Partagas serie P and D, Monte #2's and some Bolivars which in my opinion are some of the best cigars ever made. Any other recommendations you can make? As you can see I am a full bodied type of guy !!

Also, other than LCDH at las americas, is there any other ones I can shop at or do you recommend going solely there.

Thanks James and all the best.

Answer
Hi Thomas,

The cigar store at the Plaza La Americas mall is nice.  It's always got a great selection of cigars and is probably the best cigar store in Varadero.  There's a LCDH at 63rd St & 1st Ave (1 ave & Calle 63) worth checking out... nice selection, great staff.  If you're near the Solimar resort, I believe they also have a nice cigar store there with a friendly staff.  You can definitely buy single cigars at all of the cigar stores so don't worry. :)

If you can go to Havana for a day, be sure to check out the Melia Cohiba cigar store and the Partagas Factory!

As for cigar recommendations, Partagas Serie P/D, Monte #2 and Bolivar are great choices.  Try the Bolivar Belicoso Finos and Royal Coronas.  If you haven't tried Ramon Allones yet, try the Specially Selected (robusto) and Gigante.  A Cuaba Salomones is also a nice cigar to enjoy in the evening. ;)

Hopes this helps!  As always, if you have any more questions, please feel free to just ask and I will be happy to help.  Enjoy your trip and have a happy new year!

Regards,
James

Expertise

My main area of expertise is Cuban cigars but I can also assist you with cigar etiquette, humidor maintenance and troubleshooting. Unsure of a certain cigar brand? Wondering what a certain cigar tastes like? Have any questions about Cuban cigars? Just let me know! I have smoked every brand of Cuban cigars and most reputable non-Cuban cigar brands on a regular basis so I know a fair bit about taste profiles, cigar etiquette and other fine nuances to cigar smoking. (NOTE: My main focus is on premium, hand-rolled cigars and not cheap, machine made, convenience store cigars.) IMPORTANT: PLEASE NOTE THAT I DO NOT PROVIDE CIGAR OR CIGAR-RELATED APPRAISALS. If you have a vintage cigar item and you want to know if it's worth something, please contact an antique dealer that specializes in "TOBACCIANA".

Experience

I currently have 19 dedicated years of cigar smoking and counting. I have smoked every brand of Cuban cigars and most reputable non-Cuban cigar brands on a regular basis so I know a fair bit about taste profiles, cigar etiquette and other fine nuances to cigar smoking. For 5 years, I studied with Cuban torcedores (rollers), catadores (taste testers) and revisadores (inspectors) on every aspect involving the production of the Cuban cigar and I am currently writing a book that will help beginners understand everything they need to know about cigars and cigar smoking.
