Question
I recently acquired a box of these, I have compared the double bands and they appear to be originals.  Next is that the wood box is a cherry color, without any sticker or markings on the inside lid.  I looked at a lot of boxes on the Internet and they all the the cobiha sticker on the inside lid.  Is this normal not to have the sticker?
All other markings top of box, front right corner, and back all appear to be good, as I had them translated as some of them were in Spanish.
Next I was checking the price of these on the Internet and having a hard time coming up with a price.  They range from $670-$1400 and some sold for $55 each back in 2003.  So my over all questions are do think that these could be the real thing, and two if they are what would be a selling price?  Or point me in a direction to check on prices of these.

Appreciate the information in advance.

Answer
Hi Rod,

It's hard to tell whether or not these cigars are genuine based on description alone.  Counterfeiters have been known to steal or even recycle genuine cigar bands and boxes to convince buyers that they're real.  The best method for you to determine if they're genuine or not is by smoking one.  Based on your description, they sound like they're not genuine because the box is missing the Cohiba sticker under the lid.  The bands appear genuine because they may be genuine bands stolen or recycled.

As for price, these cigars have been known to sell for around $1700-$2000 USD a box or about $70-$80 a cigar now.

Hopes this answers your question. If you have any more questions, please feel free to just ask and I will be happy to help.

Regards,
James

Expertise

My main area of expertise is Cuban cigars but I can also assist you with cigar etiquette, humidor maintenance and troubleshooting. Unsure of a certain cigar brand? Wondering what a certain cigar tastes like? Have any questions about Cuban cigars? Just let me know! I have smoked every brand of Cuban cigars and most reputable non-Cuban cigar brands on a regular basis so I know a fair bit about taste profiles, cigar etiquette and other fine nuances to cigar smoking. (NOTE: My main focus is on premium, hand-rolled cigars and not cheap, machine made, convenience store cigars.) IMPORTANT: PLEASE NOTE THAT I DO NOT PROVIDE CIGAR OR CIGAR-RELATED APPRAISALS. If you have a vintage cigar item and you want to know if it's worth something, please contact an antique dealer that specializes in "TOBACCIANA".

Experience

I currently have 19 dedicated years of cigar smoking and counting. I have smoked every brand of Cuban cigars and most reputable non-Cuban cigar brands on a regular basis so I know a fair bit about taste profiles, cigar etiquette and other fine nuances to cigar smoking. For 5 years, I studied with Cuban torcedores (rollers), catadores (taste testers) and revisadores (inspectors) on every aspect involving the production of the Cuban cigar and I am currently writing a book that will help beginners understand everything they need to know about cigars and cigar smoking.
