Question

glass top humidor
Hi James,
I've just purchased a new humidor and I think that its acrylic lid has a bad seal on it. I was thinking about caulking the acrylic on the top side of the lid. Would this be hazardous to the contents inside of the humidor? Do you have any reccomendations on improving a bad seal on a glass top humidor? Thanks for any help-Patrick

Answer
Patrick,

Be careful using caulk - any odor from it will be absorbed by the cigars and will affect the taste. If you can find an odorless product, I think you'll be ok. I don't know what else you can do to seal the lid.

Sorry I can't be more help.

CommentThanks a lot Bill. While I visited a couple of hardware stores today, I found some weather stripping tape and some vinyl strips. I think that I'll try to tackle this like a drafty window and keep the liquid caulk idea on the back burner for now. I appreciate all of your help. Thanks again & Good Luck-Patrick

Expertise

I'm a fourth generation cigar maker and have spent 25+ years operating our factory as well as a mail order cigar company. I belong to cigar manufacturers associations as well as retail cigar associations so I'm usually up to date with current events relating to cigars. I've smoked the majority of brands on the market and would be happy to share my opinions of them with you. Since I live in the U.S. I have very little experience with Cuban cigars, but other than that I know a least a little bit about almost every brand of cigars on the market.

Experience

In addition to growing up in and now managing our cigar factory for 25+ years, I've spent time in many factories in Honduras, Nicaragua, The Dominican Republic and Mexico. BR>
