Question
im new to this humidor hygrometer thing . i purchased my new humidor 2 days ago , i seasoned the humidor with distilled water and the sponges as well . i let it sit overnight and it read 70% on the hygrometer so i put my cigars into the humidor and thought everything was fine . come to find out after i came home from work it jumped up to 78%, what am i doing wrong?

Answer
Mike,

Sorry about the delayed response - I've been out for the holidays and forgot to set my vacation dates on allexperts.com

The answer to your question is long, but don't worry, you are not doing anything wrong. Your hygrometer will definitely read higher when the humidor is full of cigars vs. when it is empty. If you'll send me your email address to b.finck@finckcigarcompany.com I'll email you my humidors 101 paper that should help explain the situation.

Thanks,
Bill

Expertise

I'm a fourth generation cigar maker and have spent 25+ years operating our factory as well as a mail order cigar company. I belong to cigar manufacturers associations as well as retail cigar associations so I'm usually up to date with current events relating to cigars. I've smoked the majority of brands on the market and would be happy to share my opinions of them with you. Since I live in the U.S. I have very little experience with Cuban cigars, but other than that I know a least a little bit about almost every brand of cigars on the market.

Experience

In addition to growing up in and now managing our cigar factory for 25+ years, I've spent time in many factories in Honduras, Nicaragua, The Dominican Republic and Mexico. BR>
