Question
QUESTION: Dear Mr.Yee,
Have you had occasion to try the new Cohiba Gran Reserva yet? Can that $120 per stick price tag be justified? And do you foresee this cigar eventually being priced within a more affordable range for the rest of us regular folks out here? Thank you!

ANSWER: Hi Janet,

As fantastic as Cohiba cigars are, I still don't think that the Gran Reserva is worth $120.  The price is simply too high while other incredible Cohiba cigars are more affordable so the Gran Reserva is not worth buying.  In regards to a price drop for the Reserva, it's hard to say... the price may drop (or you may find a better price if you shop around) but I wouldn't expect the price drop to be extremely low.

Hopes this answers your question.  As always, if you have any more questions, please feel free to just ask and I will be happy to help.

Regards,
James

QUESTION: If I may inquire, could you tell us which of the Cohibas in your opinion are "Incredible" as you mentioned? We all would appreciate the benefit of your recommendation. Thank you again. -Janet

Answer
Hi Janet,

The entire Cohiba Siglo line (Siglo I, II, III, etc.) is fantastic and less expensive than the Gran Reserva.  I'm quite fond of the Siglo III and IV cigars myself.  They're reasonably priced plus the cigars are a good size for the money.  Though some of the Siglo Cohiba cigars can be  expensive (ie: Siglo VI), the line does have smaller and more affordable cigars that are worth trying.

The Cohiba robusto and Churchill (Esplendido) have always been excellent cigars but are more expensive due to their size and popularity.  If you wish to splurge on a Cohiba (but not pay $120 for a Gran Reserva), try either the Robusto, Churchill or Siglo VI.

Hopes this helps!  As always, if you have any more questions, please feel free to just ask and I will be ahappy to help.

Rgards,
James

Expertise

My main area of expertise is Cuban cigars but I can also assist you with cigar etiquette, humidor maintenance and troubleshooting. Unsure of a certain cigar brand? Wondering what a certain cigar tastes like? Have any questions about Cuban cigars? Just let me know! I have smoked every brand of Cuban cigars and most reputable non-Cuban cigar brands on a regular basis so I know a fair bit about taste profiles, cigar etiquette and other fine nuances to cigar smoking. (NOTE: My main focus is on premium, hand-rolled cigars and not cheap, machine made, convenience store cigars.) IMPORTANT: PLEASE NOTE THAT I DO NOT PROVIDE CIGAR OR CIGAR-RELATED APPRAISALS. If you have a vintage cigar item and you want to know if it's worth something, please contact an antique dealer that specializes in "TOBACCIANA".

Experience

I currently have 19 dedicated years of cigar smoking and counting. I have smoked every brand of Cuban cigars and most reputable non-Cuban cigar brands on a regular basis so I know a fair bit about taste profiles, cigar etiquette and other fine nuances to cigar smoking. For 5 years, I studied with Cuban torcedores (rollers), catadores (taste testers) and revisadores (inspectors) on every aspect involving the production of the Cuban cigar and I am currently writing a book that will help beginners understand everything they need to know about cigars and cigar smoking.
