Question
Hi,

Could you please recommend me some of the premium non-Cuban cigar brand? Over in our country, all we have is Cuban cigars. I will be visiting US soon and would like to experience some of the premium non-Cuban products......I don't know where to start. Also, could you tell me what would be the price range (/ stick or box) for these cigars in USA? Thank you for your help.

Answer
KW,

Here are some of the most popular brands and average prices:

Montecristo (Dominican) $9
Padron  $5
Ashton  $9
Oliva  $4.50
Romeo Y Julieta (Dominican or Honduran)  $6
Arturo Fuente  $5.50
H. Upmann (Dominican) $6
Punch (Honduran)  $5
Excalibur  $6
Macanudo  $7
Partagas (Dominican)  $7
La Gloria Cubana  $5

Obviously you'll have to find something that fits your taste - mild, medium, strong...

My favorites would be Padron, Oliva, Ashton, La Gloria Cubana, and Romeo Y Julieta Habana Reserve.

Hope this helps.

Expertise

I'm a fourth generation cigar maker and have spent 25+ years operating our factory as well as a mail order cigar company. I belong to cigar manufacturers associations as well as retail cigar associations so I'm usually up to date with current events relating to cigars. I've smoked the majority of brands on the market and would be happy to share my opinions of them with you. Since I live in the U.S. I have very little experience with Cuban cigars, but other than that I know a least a little bit about almost every brand of cigars on the market.

Experience

In addition to growing up in and now managing our cigar factory for 25+ years, I've spent time in many factories in Honduras, Nicaragua, The Dominican Republic and Mexico. BR>
