Question
I do not smoke cigars on a frequent basis, but receive them as gifts from friends from time to time.  I thoroughly enjoy a good cigar from time to time, but do not possess anything top-shelf.  This means that I often have to store mid-grade (but enjoyable) cigars for a few weeks or sometimes more before getting a chance to enjoy them.  A humidor may be more money/effort than I can justify for my occassional smoking.  What is the best way, alternatively, to care for these cigars until such time as I can enjoy them?

Answer
John,

Any humidified, airtight container will suffice. A Tupperware-type container with a humidifier works very well. You can visit your local tobacconist and pick up a humidifier for around $15. Ask for the Madelaine crystal type humidifier, which I believe this the best on the market. You might spring for an extra $6 - $8 and buy an 8oz. bottle of Madelaine propylene glycol solution. Use this stuff to fill the humidifier, and your cigars will stay as fresh as if you had them in a high-dollar humidor.

If you have trouble fining these products or would simply rather order them on line, we offer them at www.finckcigarcompany.com

Expertise

I'm a fourth generation cigar maker and have spent 25+ years operating our factory as well as a mail order cigar company. I belong to cigar manufacturers associations as well as retail cigar associations so I'm usually up to date with current events relating to cigars. I've smoked the majority of brands on the market and would be happy to share my opinions of them with you. Since I live in the U.S. I have very little experience with Cuban cigars, but other than that I know a least a little bit about almost every brand of cigars on the market.

Experience

In addition to growing up in and now managing our cigar factory for 25+ years, I've spent time in many factories in Honduras, Nicaragua, The Dominican Republic and Mexico. BR>
