Question
I currently have 2 humidors that are both filled. I am going to be ordering a box of A.Fuente short story and a box of Torano sig. coll. perfecto. How do i maintain these 2 boxes as i do not have any more space in my 2 humidors?

Answer
Hi Anthony,

The best method for storing cigars outside your humidor is to store them in Humi-pouches.  Humi-pouches are Ziploc-style bags with a humidified lining built into the bag.  They're designed for short-term cigar storage/travel and can properly humidify your cigars for 90 days (3 months) after breaking the seal on the bag.  Humi-pouches are available in a variety of sizes and can accomodate everything from a few single cigars, to whole boxes.  The best part about this bags is that they're completely reusuable during the 3 months and you can add and remove cigars as often as you like.  Humi-pouches are available at your local cigar store and depending on the size of the bag, they can cost anywhere between $5-$15 per bag.

As an more inexpensive alternative, you can also store your cigars in a beverage cooler retro-fitted with Spanish cedar wood and a humidification device/hygrometer.  These "coolerdors" are very popular with cigar smokers who have a lot of cigar boxes but don't have enough space in their humidors.  Coolerdors function the same way a regular humidor does; simply add distilled water to the humidification device and maintain the coolerdor as you would maintain your regular humidor.  Some beverage coolers are almost air-tight so be sure to not lock the lid close.  Just let the lid sit closed but loose or slightly crack the lid open with a small piece of wood such as a toothpick and this will allow excess humidity to vent when needed.

Hopes this answers your question. If you have any more questions, please feel free to just ask and I will be happy to help.

Regards,
James

Expertise

My main area of expertise is Cuban cigars but I can also assist you with cigar etiquette, humidor maintenance and troubleshooting. Unsure of a certain cigar brand? Wondering what a certain cigar tastes like? Have any questions about Cuban cigars? Just let me know! I have smoked every brand of Cuban cigars and most reputable non-Cuban cigar brands on a regular basis so I know a fair bit about taste profiles, cigar etiquette and other fine nuances to cigar smoking. (NOTE: My main focus is on premium, hand-rolled cigars and not cheap, machine made, convenience store cigars.) IMPORTANT: PLEASE NOTE THAT I DO NOT PROVIDE CIGAR OR CIGAR-RELATED APPRAISALS. If you have a vintage cigar item and you want to know if it's worth something, please contact an antique dealer that specializes in "TOBACCIANA".

Experience

I currently have 19 dedicated years of cigar smoking and counting. I have smoked every brand of Cuban cigars and most reputable non-Cuban cigar brands on a regular basis so I know a fair bit about taste profiles, cigar etiquette and other fine nuances to cigar smoking. For 5 years, I studied with Cuban torcedores (rollers), catadores (taste testers) and revisadores (inspectors) on every aspect involving the production of the Cuban cigar and I am currently writing a book that will help beginners understand everything they need to know about cigars and cigar smoking.
