Question
QUESTION: Someone told me to wipe the inside of the humidor with sponge and 50/50 Solution, then leave the sponge in there for 24hrs under some cellophane, is that true? Would that affect the wood inside? or even the cigars I'll put in there? or should I just leave a shotglass half full of 50/50 solution for a few days?

ANSWER: Mac,

First, i wouldn't use propylene glycol solution to wipe down the inside of the humidor. You'll end up with a slight residue on the wood. Just use plain water on a damp rag and wipe it down to give the wood a little moisture. I would definitely not leave a wet sponge in it - sounds like a sure way to damage or at least stain the wood. Just wipe it down, fill the humidifier with propylene glycol solution and then let the humidor sit for about a day. After that is will be ready to use.

QUESTION: Thanks Bill, but unfortunately my other friend is to inpatient to wait for your answer so he did it. He wiped the inside with the 50/50 solution and now the humidity is low in the 45-55%. What can he do now? I did not wipe the inside of my Humi with the 50/50 solution , but I did leave a half a shot glass full of it inside the Humi for 24hrs,is that ok? Thanks again.

Answer
Mac,

Just wondering if you received a care package of cigars from us and how you liked them?

Stay safe,
Bill

Expertise

I'm a fourth generation cigar maker and have spent 25+ years operating our factory as well as a mail order cigar company. I belong to cigar manufacturers associations as well as retail cigar associations so I'm usually up to date with current events relating to cigars. I've smoked the majority of brands on the market and would be happy to share my opinions of them with you. Since I live in the U.S. I have very little experience with Cuban cigars, but other than that I know a least a little bit about almost every brand of cigars on the market.

Experience

In addition to growing up in and now managing our cigar factory for 25+ years, I've spent time in many factories in Honduras, Nicaragua, The Dominican Republic and Mexico. BR>
