Question
Sir, I recently purchased a fine humidor,I had seasoned it and calibrated the hydrometer according to directions. i had a problem with excess humidity and tested the hydrometer(using the salt and few drops of water in a ziplock bag for 6 hour method) and had to recalibrate it. My problem is this, in the bottom of the humidor the cigars are drying out and they are too moist on the top shelf. I switched places of the cigars and the hydrometer is still reading 80%. What should I do?

Thank you. Peter C.

The analog hygrometers are inaccurate. If you reset a watch that is fast or slow you know it will still be inaccurate tomorrow. So best to get a digital hygrometer for $20 to $30.

Most humidors with a shelve trap moisture at the top. In my testing of this scenario 15 years ago I was amazed at how perfect everything was when I took the shelve out!!!
Taking the shelve out opens up the interior and lends itself to the science of a humidor. Condemn the idiots that make a medium size humidor with a shelve.
For extra stability I suggest 2- 69% Boveda's that cost around $10 but have to be replaced every 3 or 4 months when used in conjunction with your larger humidification device.

Enjoy good cigars
